California's Middle Class Tax Refund
/California has announced a one-time "Middle Class Tax Refund." Eligible families will receive a one-time payment of as much as $1,050, depending on their income, filing status and household size. You do not need to do anything to receive the payment.
The Middle Class Tax Refund is a one-time payment to provide relief to Californians. If you are eligible, you will automatically receive a payment. Payments are expected to be issued between October 2022 and January 2023.
To receive your payment, you must have filed a complete 2020 tax return by October 15, 2021. Generally, if you filed electronically and received your 2020 tax refund by direct deposit, then you should get your payment the same way. Otherwise, you will receive your payment on a debit card.
You are eligible if you:
Filed your 2020 tax return by October 15, 2021
Meet the California adjusted gross income (CA AGI) limits described in the "What you may receive" section found on this page: https://www.ftb.ca.gov/about-ftb/newsroom/middle-class-tax-refund/index.html
Were not eligible to be claimed as a dependent in the 2020 tax year
Were a California resident for six months or more of the 2020 tax year
Are a California resident on the date the payment is issued
